Louisiana health insurance in 2027: federal Marketplace, 64 parishes, eight rating areas and a new Medicaid deadline
Louisiana residents shopping for individual Affordable Care Act (ACA) coverage in 2027 use the federal HealthCare.gov Marketplace. The federal site is already advertising its next Open Enrollment Period: November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027. For ordinary coverage beginning January 1, 2027, the standard selection deadline is December 15, 2026, followed by the first premium payment. Eligible enrollment outside that window follows the site's special-enrollment rules.
The geography deserves unusual care in Louisiana. The state contains 64 parishes, not counties. CMS places those parishes in eight geographic rating areas for individual and small-group health insurance. The interactive map below uses 64 actual Census parish polygon boundaries, rather than an outline invented to resemble Louisiana or an insurer's marketing territory. Rating-area membership is not the same as a carrier's ZIP-level service area, and it does not show which hospital is covered.
Louisiana's own Department of Insurance (LDI) publishes filings that affect individual and small-group health insurance. Its public search includes submissions for the 2027 plan year, but LDI expressly states that it does not have approval authority over health insurance rates. A proposed rate, a filing's displayed implemented rate change, and an individual's post-subsidy premium are three different measures. This guide labels them separately instead of manufacturing a statewide 2027 premium quote.
There is another important 2027 decision outside private Marketplace coverage. The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) says certain non-exempt adults in the ACA Medicaid expansion population will face new work or community-engagement requirements starting January 1, 2027. LDH's published fact sheet describes 80 hours of qualifying activity per month and a number of exemptions. That requirement is not automatically imposed on every Louisiana Medicaid member or every HealthCare.gov customer.
Research cutoff: October 26, 2026. The verified map has 64 separate parish GEOIDs and eight official CMS area assignments. Carrier examples below are regulatory filing names, not an invented complete 2027 QHP issuer roster. Shopping results, after-subsidy prices and providers must be checked in the resident's live 2027 application.
Six Louisiana-specific decisions that matter before selecting a 2027 policy
For individual-market QHP coverage, Louisiana uses HealthCare.gov. Louisiana Medicaid eligibility and member updates are separate state processes; neither can be inferred from an insurer logo on an advertisement.
New Orleans/Orleans Parish, Baton Rouge/East Baton Rouge and Shreveport/Caddo are in different official rating areas: 1, 5 and 8 respectively. A map area alone cannot determine the actual QHP options at a ZIP.
LDI lists individual and small-group rate filings by legal insurer entity and sometimes multiple products. Marketplace QHP certification, parish/ZIP availability, and rate filing review are related but not identical records.
In southeast Louisiana, verify your exact clinic, hospital campus and specialist within the specific 2027 plan's network. A practice may participate in one product but not another sold by the same company.
If you live in a coastal parish or spend time away during storm response, ask each insurer how urgent out-of-area care, prescription refills and network exceptions are handled. Do not assume that a temporary relocation always guarantees a Special Enrollment Period.
LDH's expansion-related 80-hour rule has exemptions and a member-notification process. Current members should update contact information at the state Medicaid portal and respond to the actual mailed notice if action is required.
Interactive Louisiana parish map: all 64 real borders and eight official CMS rating areas
The map is generated from U.S. Census TIGERweb Louisiana parish geometry, with every parish joined once to the federal CMS Louisiana rating-area table. All 64 shapes preserve their individual official GEOID; island and coastal multi-polygons retain their parts. Use the parish selector or rating area selector above the live map to highlight the relevant boundaries. This is a geographic pricing classification, not a hospital network or a 2027 quoted premium.
| CMS area and hub | Parishes in the area | What the map establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Area 1 · Greater New Orleans | Orleans, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, Jefferson, St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, St. James, St. Tammany | 8 parishes in one rating region; Orleans and St. Tammany share this classification despite distinct local providers. |
| Area 2 · Bayou and Houma region | Lafourche, Terrebonne, Assumption | 3 parishes; coastal travel and local hospital contracts require separate verification. |
| Area 3 · Acadiana | Lafayette, St. Martin, St. Mary, Iberia, Vermilion, Acadia, St. Landry, Evangeline | 8 parishes, including Lafayette and surrounding Acadiana communities. |
| Area 4 · Lake Charles and southwest | Cameron, Jefferson Davis, Calcasieu, Allen, Beauregard | 5 parishes; includes Lake Charles/Calcasieu and coastal Cameron. |
| Area 5 · Baton Rouge capital region | East Baton Rouge, West Baton Rouge, Iberville, Pointe Coupee, West Feliciana, East Feliciana, Ascension, Livingston, St. Helena, Tangipahoa, Washington | 11 parishes, spanning the capital area into adjacent southeast communities. |
| Area 6 · Central Louisiana | Rapides, Vernon, Avoyelles, Concordia, Catahoula, LaSalle, Grant, Winn | 8 parishes, including the Alexandria/Rapides hub; some specialists require longer travel. |
| Area 7 · Monroe and northeast | Ouachita, East Carroll, West Carroll, Madison, Tensas, Franklin, Richland, Morehouse, Caldwell, Jackson, Lincoln, Union | 12 parishes, with Monroe/Ouachita and several lower-density border areas. |
| Area 8 · Shreveport and northwest | Bossier, Caddo, Webster, Claiborne, Bienville, Red River, De Soto, Natchitoches, Sabine | 9 parishes, including Shreveport/Caddo and Bossier communities. |
Map quality note. CMS spells “Vermillion” and “La Salle” in its published rating table; the Census parish names are Vermilion and LaSalle. The map normalizes these textual differences to match the true Census 64-parish geometry. CMS areas have 8 + 3 + 8 + 5 + 11 + 8 + 12 + 9 = 64 parish assignments.
Louisiana insurance companies: which names appear in 2027 rate evidence, and what remains unverified
LDI's public individual/small-group rate-filing search contains 2027 records associated with insurer legal entities, among them Louisiana Health Service & Indemnity Company, HMO Louisiana, Ambetter Health of Louisiana, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana, CHRISTUS Health Plan Louisiana and UnitedHealthcare entities. This establishes that regulated insurers filed rate information; it is not evidence that each listed legal entity sells a 2027 federal Marketplace medical QHP to every Louisiana parish.
The operative 2027 qualified-plan roster and county/ZIP selection must be obtained through the live HealthCare.gov plan comparison, then checked against each carrier's Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBC), Evidence of Coverage and provider directory. Some insurers may offer off-exchange, employer/small-group or other products in the same state, and multiple filing rows can belong to one company. The examples below are explicitly identified by filing name, not consumer star rating or issuer market share.
LDI lists 2027-effective filings for this Louisiana insurer legal entity. Verify the consumer-facing brand, HMO/PPO product, selling county and exact network directly through 2027 Marketplace results.
LDI public health-rate searchAmbetter's legal entity appears in LDI rate-filing information. A filed change percentage does not reveal the subsidy-adjusted monthly cost, drug formulary or whether a resident's preferred hospital participates.
Verify entity and filing in LDI searchA carrier and a hospital system may share branding without every campus or clinician being in every policy network. Check the exact 2027 product, physician group and facility before enrollment.
LDI regulatory recordThese legal names require product- and market-specific verification. Do not mistake a Medicaid managed-care company, a small-group submission or an out-of-exchange contract for a newly confirmed medical QHP issuer.
Check actual 2027 Marketplace choices| Record | What it genuinely proves | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| LDI 2027 health-rate filing | An identified legal insurer filed a specified rate request/record in the individual or small-group scope. | Certification as a 2027 Louisiana Marketplace QHP issuer in all parishes. |
| HealthCare.gov 2027 QHP result | Available certified policies and actual quoted gross/net costs for the application's ZIP and household details. | That a doctor will remain participating for the entire year without network changes. |
| Carrier's 2027 provider directory | Listed participating services, subject to direct confirmation with provider and carrier. | That a filing-wide percentage is a household's premium change. |
| Louisiana Medicaid managed-care directory | An arrangement within the public Louisiana Medicaid program. | An additional private ACA QHP insurer on HealthCare.gov. |
Louisiana's 2027 health insurance rate filings: proposed, implemented and personally payable are different
In the LDI health rate-filing database, the 2027 plan-year search distinguishes a filing's proposed percent change from its displayed implemented percent change. Crucially, LDI says it reviews but does not approve health-insurance rates. Therefore, “implemented” is LDI's field name, not evidence that the Louisiana regulator approved that amount. A product's final household price still depends on exact rating factors, chosen coverage, tax credit and eligibility.
The public 2027 rows viewed at the October 26, 2026 research cutoff include the following illustrative legal-entity filings. Do not average these into a “Louisiana 2027 approved market rate”: rows represent different insurers/products, some entities have multiple filings, LDI's individual-and-small-group data are mixed in this search, and smaller requested increases may not yet be included in the posted list.
| Named filing legal entity | Proposed → implemented change | Responsible reading |
|---|---|---|
| Ambetter Health of Louisiana, Inc. | 22.30% → 24.50% | One publicly listed rate-filing row, not universal Ambetter policy price or household subsidy. |
| CHRISTUS Health Plan Louisiana | 13.80% → 13.40% | Legal-entity filing rate change; confirm exact marketplace-product relationship independently. |
| AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana, Inc. | 10.51% → 10.49% | Regulatory filing only; avoid confusing Medicaid managed care and ACA QHP products. |
| HMO Louisiana, Inc. | 13.25% → 13.70% | LDI shows other rows for similarly named entities; this is not an entity-wide unique average. |
| Louisiana Health Service & Indemnity Company | 11.83% → 11.87% | One selected filing; another 2027 row exists under this legal entity. |
| UnitedHealthcare Insurance Company | 20.20% → 20.20% | A filing-entity record; not evidence of every county or private QHP's availability. |
LDI explains that rate filings with increases under the applicable posting threshold can appear later, with some records posted at the start of November. The site also has distinct regulatory rules for individual, small-group and large-employer plans. The sample above is deliberately not a complete list of certified 2027 medical QHP sellers, not a weighted state average, and not an after-tax-credit price. A reader who wants to verify or challenge a record can use LDI's search or public-records request for the underlying filing.
| Measurement | Source / current status | Interpretation for a resident |
|---|---|---|
| 2027 requested change | LDI insurer-submitted filing; named product/entity. | A request does not set the exact annual premium of your household. |
| 2027 implemented change | LDI public search field for some filings. | Do not relabel this as Louisiana “approved,” because LDI disclaims rate-approval authority. |
| Marketplace gross premium | 2027 HealthCare.gov quote for a particular applicant. | Depends on ZIP, ages, covered people, tobacco rating where applicable and selected plan. |
| Marketplace net premium | Live eligibility calculation after any federal advance premium tax credit. | Recheck 2027 projected income, household and tax-credit eligibility; prior-year help may differ. |
| Yearly expected total cost | Premiums plus likely deductible, copays, coinsurance and out-of-pocket exposure. | A low monthly price alone can conceal expensive routine or specialist care. |
Keep the State context above, then compare current options using the actual ZIP, household details, provider needs and prescriptions that apply to you.
Louisiana 2027 research snapshot: what can be counted before Open Enrollment opens
As of October 26, 2026, the federal site is announcing the 2027 dates, CMS provides eight stable Louisiana rating regions and the Census geometry identifies all 64 parishes. The public rate filing system shows a collection of insurer submissions but does not publish a verified count of certified ACA Marketplace medical QHP issuers by every ZIP in the same table. We therefore give measured geography and explicit gaps instead of filling those blanks with unsubstantiated counts.
| Research measure | Verified result | Correct interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| Official state units | 64 parishes | U.S. Census parish polygons, all covered in the interactive map. |
| CMS rating groups | 8 areas | Federal rate geography; area sizes are 8/3/8/5/11/8/12/9 parishes. |
| Verified enrollment platform | Federal HealthCare.gov | Private qualified-plan shopping for a Louisiana resident. |
| 2027 Marketplace window | Nov 1, 2026–Jan 15, 2027 | Regular OEP, not the Medicaid application calendar. |
| Exact 2027 QHP issuer count by ZIP | NOT_AVAILABLE_AFTER_RESEARCH | Check live 2027 certified plan results; filing entities do not settle this. |
| Louisiana 2027 weighted average net premium | NOT_AVAILABLE_AFTER_RESEARCH | No authentic uniform household premium or single verified taxpayer-subsidized mean from cited sources. |
| Affected expansion population estimate | 297,441 (LDH planning estimate) | Potentially affected Medicaid expansion members, not proven future disenrollments. |
| Medicaid work/community engagement start | January 1, 2027 | Specified non-exempt expansion adults only; exemptions and notification apply. |
LDH's January 2026 two-page fact sheet says 86,564 of the 297,441 potentially affected members had earnings already verified in state systems, while 210,877 others include many possible medically frail exemptions. These are administrative projections, not actual 2027 coverage-loss statistics and not a projection of Marketplace QHP enrollments.
What a Louisiana family should compare: gross premium, 2027 tax credits and total care cost
A family's affordable plan is not necessarily the one with the smallest displayed monthly price. A 2027 HealthCare.gov result can show a plan's gross premium and any advance premium tax credit for an eligible tax household. Compare those with the expected cost of primary care, prescriptions, specialty visits and emergency care. Premium tax-credit levels and eligibility rules can change by plan year; relying on an old 2026 calculator or the increased pandemic-era subsidies without checking 2027 is unsafe.
| Cost / condition | What to retrieve for every shortlisted plan | Louisiana-specific question |
|---|---|---|
| Premium after subsidies | 2027 monthly gross premium and validated advance tax credit; annualize the net. | Was the quote calculated for the correct residential parish and ZIP? |
| Deductible and maximum | Separate medical/Rx deductible and in-network out-of-pocket maximum. | What happens financially during a high-care year? |
| Primary and specialist access | Copays, coinsurance and referral/authorization rules. | Can the household actually reach participating specialists in its metro or rural area? |
| Emergency and storm interruption | Urgent/emergency terms, out-of-area benefit conditions and claims steps. | How does the actual plan handle a temporary evacuation and refill interruption? |
| Drug coverage | 2027 formulary tiers, authorization restrictions, preferred pharmacy list. | Are repeated prescriptions affordable at pharmacies reachable during a storm or trip? |
| Federal financial help | HealthCare.gov APTC and, when eligible, Silver cost-sharing reductions. | Do projected 2027 household income and other coverage offers affect eligibility? |
For cost-sharing reductions, an eligible person generally must choose an eligible Silver Marketplace plan. Bronze/Silver/Gold labels describe how costs are shared rather than any guarantee of provider quality. The federally required SBC comparison document provides specific standardized deductible and benefit examples. Use that against the actual 2027 contract, not a carrier-wide marketing page.
Provider networks across Louisiana: how to check hospitals, referrals and parish travel
Louisiana's eight CMS rating areas do not prescribe hospital networks. A household in Orleans Parish (area 1) may use different clinics or specialist groups from a household in nearby St. Tammany, even though they share the same rating area. The East Baton Rouge group sits in area 5; Lafayette is area 3; Calcasieu is area 4; Rapides is area 6; Ouachita is area 7; and Caddo is area 8. These regional distinctions matter when pricing and travel interact, but hospital contracts can cut across or subdivide them.
| Resident scenario | Confirm with the selected 2027 issuer | Avoid assuming |
|---|---|---|
| New Orleans / Northshore | Actual hospital campus, chosen primary care office and specialist NPI. | That rating area 1 means one unified hospital network. |
| Baton Rouge / Ascension / Livingston | Specific clinic and hospital service line in the insurer's named product. | That a major medical system's logo equals participation at every facility. |
| Acadiana / Lafayette | Specialist appointment locations and whether a referral is required. | That a Lafayette office also accepts the plan in every neighboring parish. |
| Lake Charles / Cameron coast | Out-of-area urgent-care coverage and options during disruption. | That temporary storm evacuation automatically changes Marketplace eligibility. |
| Central and northern parishes | Travel distance, referral pathway, telehealth conditions and in-network imaging/lab sites. | That a regional specialty facility participates in all advertised HMO networks. |
Include NPI when available, street address and services such as maternity, cardiology, pediatrics or oncology.
Select the 2027 product, network label and correct service parish rather than browsing the insurer's generic hospital locator.
Call the insurer and provider's billing office with the precise plan name; ask whether they accept new patients and that product.
Record nearby in-network urgent care, pharmacy, specialist alternatives and the process for a network exception or appeal.
If you encounter an incorrect listing, keep screenshots, date/time, reference numbers and written benefit descriptions. The Louisiana Department of Insurance consumer portal provides a state route for insurance complaints, while HealthCare.gov and the carrier handle Marketplace eligibility and plan selection.
How to assess Louisiana 2027 insurance quality without inventing a company star ranking
Quality cannot responsibly be reduced to a blanket star number for an entire insurer. A company may sell multiple plans with differing networks, cost-sharing designs and official quality displays. Where a 2027 HealthCare.gov listing shows a Quality Rating System score for the exact product, treat it as one comparison signal alongside network sufficiency, covered drugs, access and complaints. A missing 2027 plan rating does not mean that the insurer scores zero.
| Evidence | Best legitimate use | Unreliable shortcut |
|---|---|---|
| 2027 official product rating | Compare the displayed QHP-level quality measure for the same plan year and service geography. | Assigning one fabricated star score to every product under a brand. |
| Insurer directory | Identify candidate participating clinicians and facilities for the exact network. | Assuming every advertised hospital must be included for any plan. |
| SBC and contract | Read actual benefits, deductible exposure, referrals and covered services. | Judging plan quality by premium percentage alone. |
| LDI complaints and regulatory information | Research complaint handling and the specific legal insurer entity. | Comparing raw complaint counts without membership or product context. |
| Consumer testimony | Identify questions to independently verify with an insurer. | Presenting anecdotes as statistically verified 2027 QHP performance. |
At this research cutoff, a complete set of validated 2027 Louisiana product-specific quality scores was NOT_AVAILABLE_AFTER_RESEARCH. We intentionally make no “best Louisiana insurer 2027” award from uncertain evidence.
Prescription coverage and pharmacy access in Louisiana for 2027
Prescription costs can vary materially among plans with similar premiums. An accurate review begins with your medication's generic or brand name, dosage, supply quantity, refill schedule and preferred pharmacy. Check the 2027 formulary for the precise network/product, then compare the assigned tier, deductible stage, prior authorization and any specialty-drug handling. Insurance cards, prescriptions and 2026 preferred-pharmacy lists are not evidence of 2027 contracted terms.
Include inhalers, insulin, injectable therapies, devices and any medication requiring a particular specialist.
Compare tier, quantity limit, step therapy, prior authorization, specialty-pharmacy rules and whether the drug deductible is separate.
Look up your usual location, a reachable backup and any required mail-order or preferred pharmacy restrictions.
For possible flooding or storm relocation, read the insurer's refill and out-of-area procedures and save member-support contacts.
State Medicaid members should verify medication coverage with Louisiana Medicaid and their assigned managed-care plan, rather than assuming the private ACA Marketplace formularies apply to them.
Louisiana Medicaid in 2027: LDH's 80-hour rule, exemptions and how to keep notices current
LDH's January 2026 Medicaid work-requirement fact sheet explains a federal change scheduled for January 1, 2027. Adults 19–64 in Louisiana's ACA expansion population who are subject to the provision will generally need to average 80 hours per month of qualifying work, school, volunteering or combinations of those activities. This is not a requirement for every adult, child, Medicare beneficiary or privately insured person.
The official sheet lists exemption categories including medically frail individuals; disabled veterans; caregivers for dependent children aged 13 or younger or a disabled person; pregnancy and postpartum periods; certain former foster-care youths under 26; qualifying substance-use treatment; some recent incarceration situations; and people satisfying designated TANF/SNAP requirements. LDH says the state will first use available earnings and other records to verify some people's eligibility automatically. Others will receive an individual notice requesting information or an action.
| Program / group | Official route | Important 2027 consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Individual private ACA QHP | HealthCare.gov | 2027 OEP, live ZIP quote, APTC/CSR application and private network. |
| Medicaid expansion adult 19–64 | Louisiana Medicaid (LDH) | Some non-exempt members face 80 hours monthly from January 1; individualized evidence process. |
| Medicaid child, qualifying pregnant member, exempt person | Louisiana Medicaid | Eligibility and exemptions are category-specific; no blanket conclusion from the expansion-adult rule. |
| LaCHIP child coverage | Louisiana Medicaid / LaCHIP | Child-program eligibility is separate from individual QHP Open Enrollment deadlines. |
| Employer or large-group policy | Employer benefits administrator and insurer | LDI individual/small-group filing rows are not personal employer premium predictions. |
LDH states that potentially affected members should keep their current mailing address, phone and email on file. Its official methods include mymedicaid.la.gov, contact through their health plan, or Louisiana Medicaid at 888-342-6207. The fact sheet quotes a planning estimate of 297,441 potentially affected expansion members, not guaranteed loss-of-coverage events. Anyone unsure whether they are medically frail, caregiving or otherwise exempt should request an official state determination and follow the individualized notices.
For private federal Marketplace financial help, HealthCare.gov determines whether projected household income and applicable coverage status allow a premium tax credit or cost-sharing reduction. Louisiana Medicaid and tax-credit rules intersect, but they are not interchangeable enrollment systems.
Louisiana 2027 enrollment and benefit calendar: deadlines that require different actions
HealthCare.gov's official federal calendar lists November 1–January 15 for the coming year's Marketplace coverage, with December 15 as the January 1 selection deadline. The Louisiana Medicaid January 1 work requirement comes from a separate LDH fact sheet. The same date appearing in two programs must not cause applicants to send work evidence to the Marketplace or assume a Medicaid eligibility renewal is a QHP plan change.
| Date or trigger | What changes | Recommended action |
|---|---|---|
| October 2026 | Official 2027 federal enrollment dates are published; selected LDI filing records are visible. | List doctors, medicines, expected 2027 income and residence details; do not buy on an unverified filing percentage. |
| November 1, 2026 | HealthCare.gov begins 2027 Open Enrollment. | Use actual 2027 Louisiana ZIP/household inputs to compare QHPs. |
| December 15, 2026 | Standard cutoff for January 1 federal Marketplace coverage. | Complete selection, validate specialists/prescriptions, and follow first-premium instructions. |
| January 1, 2027 | Marketplace Jan 1 policies may start; LDH's expansion-member community engagement policy begins for affected members. | Confirm insurance is active; Medicaid members read and respond to their own LDH notice if required. |
| January 15, 2027 | Ordinary federal Marketplace OEP ends. | Finish remaining eligible selections for the ordinary February 1 effective date. |
| February 1, 2027 | Typical coverage starts for properly completed Dec 16–Jan 15 OEP selections after first payment. | Verify member ID, effective date, plan network and payment acceptance. |
| Qualifying life event | A Special Enrollment Period may permit coverage changes outside OEP. | Check official SEP eligibility and document the specific event; do not presume every temporary move qualifies. |
| Individual Medicaid notice | LDH may request information if automated verification cannot resolve eligibility. | Update contact details and answer within the deadline printed on the member's own notice. |
Our independent six-step Louisiana 2027 plan selection method
Separate individual ACA Marketplace coverage, employer coverage, Medicare eligibility and Louisiana Medicaid/LaCHIP. Each route has different costs and deadlines.
Identify the parish and ZIP. Use the authentic map for CMS geography, then HealthCare.gov—not the map—to discover certified 2027 plan offers.
Take the household's actual 2027 gross premiums, APTC and cost-sharing terms. Filing rows are not final personalized quotes.
Validate primary doctor, specialist, hospital campus, imaging and lab network for each candidate network by calling the issuer and provider.
Use the 2027 formulary for medications and verify urgent care, refill options and out-of-area claims rules relevant to coastal travel or storm displacement.
Save the QHP plan ID, signed-off SBC, payment confirmation, enrollment start and contact numbers; follow separate LDH renewal notices for Medicaid.
Official enrollment support is available via HealthCare.gov's local-help locator. Independent consumer complaints about regulated products can also be directed to Louisiana's insurance department. ApexTrusted is an editorial research site; these comparisons are not a binding eligibility decision or a recommendation that every resident buy the same policy.
Louisiana health insurance 2027: answers to common research questions
Does Louisiana have its own ACA Marketplace or use HealthCare.gov?
Louisiana uses the federal HealthCare.gov Marketplace for individual QHP applications in 2027. Louisiana Medicaid eligibility and member updates operate separately through the state.
When can I enroll in a 2027 Louisiana private Marketplace plan?
Ordinary federal Open Enrollment runs November 1, 2026–January 15, 2027. The standard deadline for January 1 coverage is December 15, followed by required first-premium payment. Qualified Special Enrollment Periods have separate rules.
How many counties does Louisiana have?
It has 64 parishes rather than counties. The map on this page uses all 64 individual U.S. Census parish geometries and identifies their real GEOIDs.
Why are there eight colors or regions on the Louisiana parish map?
CMS groups Louisiana's 64 parishes into eight geographic health-insurance rating areas. The regions classify rating geography but are not carrier service territories or hospital networks.
Are Orleans and St. Tammany in the same rating area?
Yes. CMS places both parishes in Area 1, together with Jefferson, St. Bernard, Plaquemines, St. Charles, St. John the Baptist and St. James. Their specific covered doctors and available QHPs can still differ.
Which rating area includes East Baton Rouge?
East Baton Rouge Parish is in CMS rating Area 5, an 11-parish region. It should not be confused with individual provider-network availability in Greater Baton Rouge.
Do the listed 2027 LDI insurance-company filings mean all companies sell QHPs everywhere?
No. LDI's public search covers individual and small-group insurer legal-entity filings and can show more than one filing per entity. Only live 2027 Marketplace plan results confirm the resident's QHP choices by ZIP.
Did the Louisiana Department of Insurance approve the filed 2027 increases?
LDI explicitly says it does not possess health insurance rate-approval authority. Its public lookup distinguishes proposed and implemented filings, but an implemented change is not a personal net-premium quote and should not be labeled a Louisiana approval.
What happened to 2027 premium tax credits?
Financial assistance depends on actual 2027 HealthCare.gov eligibility, expected household income, coverage offers and current federal rules. Do not rely on 2026 subsidy levels or a blanket estimated premium. Eligible Silver-plan shoppers should also review cost-sharing reductions.
Will Louisiana Medicaid require everyone to work 80 hours in 2027?
No. LDH's January 2026 fact sheet says the January 1, 2027 community-engagement change applies to certain non-exempt adults in the ACA expansion group. It lists multiple exemptions and automated verification options; most Louisiana Medicaid members are not directly affected.
What if I never receive a Louisiana Medicaid work-requirement notice?
LDH urges all members to keep contact information current at mymedicaid.la.gov or by contacting Louisiana Medicaid. If the agency needs manual information, it says it will notify the specific member. The state Medicaid contact number in its fact sheet is 888-342-6207.
Does a hurricane evacuation automatically create a Special Enrollment Period?
Not automatically. HealthCare.gov determines Special Enrollment eligibility from specific qualifying events and disaster-related policies. Verify your documented circumstances directly with the federal Marketplace before assuming a plan change is allowed.
Can I use the CMS parish map to confirm my hospital is in network?
No. The interactive map is a verified geographic rating-area tool. Check the specific plan's current 2027 provider directory, insurer and actual clinic or hospital campus to confirm provider participation.
Where can I get free Louisiana enrollment assistance?
Use HealthCare.gov's official local-help finder for Marketplace help, and Louisiana Medicaid/LDH for public-program coverage questions. Consumer insurance regulatory questions can be raised through LDI.
Louisiana 2027 source audit: 18 evidence families, map provenance and unresolved data
Verified through October 26, 2026. We used federal HealthCare.gov enrollment materials, the CMS Louisiana 64-parish rating area schedule, actual Census parish polygons, LDI's 2027 individual/small-group health-rate filing information and the Louisiana Department of Health's January 2026 Medicaid changes fact sheet. Geography, plan certification, insurer legal entity, net premium and provider participation are separate questions.
