Nevada’s 2027 health insurance market: what is officially confirmed
Nevada Health Link is the state-based Marketplace for eligible Nevadans purchasing individual and family Qualified Health Plans (QHPs). A plan shown by the Marketplace for your address is different from the full set of policies that may be offered on and off the exchange. On October 1, 2026, the Nevada Division of Insurance announced the release of approved plan-year 2027 rates and plans, while Nevada Health Link opened pre-enrollment browsing.
There are 46 exclusively off-exchange plans from three off-exchange-only carriers in the state’s October 2026 announcement. “On-exchange,” “off-exchange” and “all individual market” do not describe the same shopping set. The numbers above represent approved statewide market inventory, not an assertion that each resident can choose among every listed product.
Evidence checked October 24, 2026: Nevada Division of Insurance’s official October 1 release, Nevada Health Link, and CMS. Do not treat state averages as a personal 2027 quote or as proof that a particular doctor accepts a plan.
Five Nevada decisions that drive a better plan comparison
Start with Nevada Health Link if you want an official federal tax-credit determination. The state notes that federal financial assistance is available through the exchange, not by assuming it applies to a direct-purchase policy.
Clark and Nye are Area 1, Washoe is Area 2, Carson City and three neighboring counties are Area 3, while ten other counties are Area 4. Your real residential address controls shopping.
Compare its official gross/net premium, exact network, drug formulary and deductible with conventional exchange QHP options. A discounted design does not eliminate cost-sharing or provider restrictions.
Model twelve monthly payments plus expected medicines, office visits, deductible, specialist and hospital use, and the in-network out-of-pocket maximum.
Use free trained, certified Nevada Health Link assistance or the Marketplace portal; never treat an independent editorial guide as an eligibility determination.
Interactive Nevada map: four real CMS rating areas and 17 localities
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) assigns Nevada four geographic rating areas for individual and small-group premium rating. Nevada consists of 16 counties plus Carson City, which is an independent county-equivalent jurisdiction. The map uses real U.S. Census TIGERweb boundaries for all 17 geographic units, assigned one by one to the official CMS lists; it does not use a stylized statewide blob.
| Area | Regional reference | Units | CMS county list |
|---|---|---|---|
| Area 1 | Las Vegas / southern Nevada | 2 | Clark and Nye |
| Area 2 | Reno / Sparks | 1 | Washoe |
| Area 3 | Carson City / western counties | 4 | Carson City, Douglas, Lyon, Storey |
| Area 4 | Rural and northern Nevada | 10 | Churchill, Elko, Esmeralda, Eureka, Humboldt, Lander, Lincoln, Mineral, Pershing, White Pine |
Area 1 joins Clark and Nye, even though a rural Nye County home is not necessarily offered the same provider networks as a home in Las Vegas. Area 2 is Washoe alone. Area 3 groups Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey. Area 4 contains the other ten counties. The on-page selector can highlight individual counties; one is randomly selected when the map first loads.
Map sources: CMS Nevada geographic rating areas for group membership and U.S. Census TIGERweb for the 17 actual outlines. A rating area does not prove plan availability, provider participation or the amount of anyone’s premium.
Approved 2027 plans: nine exchange carriers, three off-exchange-only carriers
The Nevada Division of Insurance counted 12 participating insurance companies and 165 individual-market plans across exchange and non-exchange channels. For exchange shoppers, it reported nine on-exchange carriers. Separately, three exclusively off-exchange carriers offered 46 off-exchange plans. These are regulator-reported market totals, not the number of choices in a specific Nevada county or ZIP code.
Combined statewide on- and off-exchange inventory, not individual ZIP availability.
See exact product options, eligibility and savings for a real household in the official portal.
These are direct-market products; do not assume exchange financial assistance applies.
Carrier brands often market multiple products with different provider networks. A name in a statewide regulatory filing is not enough evidence to rank that company, infer a five-star quality score, or say its full product lineup serves Elko, Reno and Las Vegas alike. Use Nevada Health Link and current policy documents for product-level verification.
Approved 2027 rate increases: what the two official averages mean
The regulator’s October 1 release reports an average 17.0% rate increase for on-exchange coverage and an average 10.9% rate change for off-exchange-only offerings. Both are market summaries, not a personal percentage increase, a guaranteed final bill for every enrollee, or a number to apply to all 165 plans. The comparison groups differ, so the figures should not be combined or contrasted as if they represent the same policies.
| Measure | Verified state information | Consumer interpretation |
|---|---|---|
| All participating carriers | 12 across on- and off-exchange individual coverage | Regulatory total; some companies and products serve limited areas. |
| On-exchange change | 17.0% market-average approved change | Not the household’s after-credit monthly price. |
| Exclusively off-exchange change | 10.9% market-average approved change | Different policies and purchasing route from subsidized exchange plans. |
| Premium after assistance | Calculated by Nevada Health Link | Supply actual household income, members, ages and 2027 address. |
Primary source: Nevada Department of Business & Industry / Division of Insurance, October 1, 2026 approved-rates notice. Do not confuse these approved 2027 Nevada statistics with preliminary multi-state filing trackers.
Keep the State context above, then compare current options using the actual ZIP, household details, provider needs and prescriptions that apply to you.
Nevada 2027 cost explorer: compare gross, net and high-use costs
Two households in Reno can have different costs because of covered family members, ages, income, the specific carrier product and eligibility for tax credits. The same nominal plan can produce a very different annual total once copays, deductibles, formularies and network access are considered. The exchange’s actual 2027 quote is more relevant than any generic statewide average.

Record what the named plan charges before any household-specific financial assistance.
Use Nevada Health Link’s actual federal assistance determination if eligible.
Project realistic appointments, recurring prescriptions, imaging and specialist costs.
Check inpatient charges, out-of-network limitations and the in-network out-of-pocket maximum.
Open Enrollment for Nevada 2027 starts November 1 and closes January 15
The state regulator and Nevada Health Link report November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027 as the plan-year 2027 Open Enrollment period. The official Marketplace permitted October “window shopping” in advance of enrollment, but browsing options does not by itself enroll a household or activate coverage. Read the selected policy’s effective-date and first-premium instructions before treating an application as complete.
| Step | Date or status | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Plan preview | October 2026 | Explore announced offerings and compare costs; do not mistake preview for enrollment. |
| Open Enrollment starts | November 1, 2026 | Submit a 2027 application through Nevada Health Link. |
| Open Enrollment ends | January 15, 2027 | Confirm deadlines, coverage start and payment details in the portal. |
| Outside the regular window | Qualifying-life-event Special Enrollment Period | Check current SEP eligibility and documentation before assuming an exception applies. |
Important document discrepancy: the general Nevada Health Link home page and the Division of Insurance’s 2027 release consistently say January 15, 2027. A Battle Born State Plans promotional FAQ separately displays December 31 without an explicit 2027 year in its answer. For 2027 deadlines, this guide follows the dated regulator announcement; verify any BBSP-specific cutoff directly in your Nevada Health Link account.
Battle Born State Plans: Nevada’s distinctive new comparison for 2027
Battle Born State Plans (BBSPs) are a Nevada-specific, state-contracted category available exclusively through Nevada Health Link. The exchange explains that the participating carriers must meet premium-reduction targets, while the products retain QHP essential benefits and protections. “Built-in premium discounts” describes the plan design relative to its targets; it does not mean every applicant receives an additional cash voucher or that every BBSP is the cheapest after household tax credits and cost-sharing.
State-contracted issuers offer Qualified Health Plans designed to meet premium-reduction targets while satisfying applicable federal and Nevada requirements.
Do not assume a BBSP has the same medical network, drug formulary or specialist copay as a different QHP or a different BBSP issuer.
Use NevadaHealthLink.com, select the real residential ZIP and compare actual BBSP and non-BBSP products side by side.
Check whether a named physician, hospital, behavioral-health provider and pharmacy accept the specific 2027 BBSP product.
Official explanation: Nevada Health Link — Battle Born State Plans. These plans are not the same as Nevada Medicaid or Nevada Check Up, and they are not available through arbitrary off-exchange solicitations.
Nevada provider networks: check Las Vegas, Reno and rural travel patterns separately
A network that seems extensive near Las Vegas may have different usefulness in Washoe County, Carson City or remote northeastern Nevada. Nevada has large rural distances; emergency coverage rules are not a substitute for routine, in-network specialist access. For ongoing conditions, ask the insurer and provider about the full 2027 product and network name, not just a parent brand.

Check named Las Vegas/Henderson hospitals and outpatient specialists under the exact exchange product. Clark and Nye share a rating area but not necessarily an identical service network.
Check Washoe County health systems, referral conditions, appointment availability and whether access extends to nearby communities.
Compare individual clinicians in Carson City, Douglas, Lyon and Storey; do not assume crossing a county line preserves plan participation.
Verify telehealth conditions, local facilities, travel to tertiary care, urgent-care networks and out-of-area nonemergency restrictions.
Prescription coverage: Nevada pharmacy choices can change total cost
Prescription benefits vary by the exact 2027 product even under the same insurer name. A preferred pharmacy in Reno may not give the same pricing for a particular plan as a pharmacy in Elko or a mail-order service. Check the drug’s name, dose, formulation, quantity, formulary tier, prior authorization, step therapy and pharmacy network in the plan-year documents.

Read the specific plan’s approved 2027 covered-drug document.
Compare allowed amounts, step therapy, quantity limits and specialty delivery rules.
Check a named branch, preferred status, and any mail-order restrictions.
Calculate predictable prescriptions and possible deductible exposure across candidate plans.
Plan quality: separate independently checkable evidence from marketing
Neither nine participating exchange carriers nor an approved statewide rate average is a star rating. This guide does not invent an insurer ranking or attribute a plan-level federal quality score without its actual certified plan identifier and reporting year. Compare the plan-specific Nevada Health Link details, official Summary of Benefits and Coverage, network directory, formulary and any official quality metrics displayed for that product.
Verified care providers and hospitals under the named current-year network.
Deductible, copay, coinsurance and out-of-pocket maximum taken from official product details.
Evidence of prescription coverage, therapy, mental-health services and referral requirements.
Only plan-specific quality measures with a disclosed source and measurement period.
Nevada Health Link tax credits, cost-sharing reductions and public coverage
Nevada Health Link is the state’s official route to federal Marketplace premium tax credits, when eligible. Federal advance premium tax credits (APTC) can reduce the household’s monthly payment; cost-sharing reductions (CSR) can reduce qualifying out-of-pocket costs with eligible Silver plans. Actual 2027 amounts and eligibility depend on current federal rules, income, tax household, other coverage and the official exchange determination; do not assume a 2026 subsidy continues unchanged.
Medicaid and Nevada Check Up are separate public programs. Nevada Health Link explains that its application can transfer eligible applicants to Nevada Medicaid, and that Nevada Check Up is the state children’s coverage pathway. Medicaid coverage, if eligible, generally has a separate application and timing process from private QHP shopping. Review current program terms and any changed 2027 policies through state agencies.
| Program | Official pathway | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Marketplace APTC | Nevada Health Link | Eligibility-based federal help reducing monthly QHP premiums. |
| CSR on eligible Silver plans | Nevada Health Link | Potentially reduces deductible, copayments or coinsurance under the qualifying Silver plan. |
| Battle Born State Plans | Nevada Health Link | State-contracted QHP products with premium-reduction targets; distinct from tax credits. |
| Nevada Medicaid | Access Nevada / Nevada Health Link transfer | State-administered public health coverage for eligible applicants. |
| Nevada Check Up | Nevada state CHIP pathway | Public children’s health coverage for eligible households. |
Use official eligibility tools: Nevada Health Link financial assistance and Nevada Medicaid and Check Up guidance. An editorial site cannot determine a household’s eligibility or calculate binding rates.
A six-step Nevada 2027 enrollment research workflow
Use the official Nevada Health Link portal with residential ZIP, household ages, expected income and tax-household information.
Reference the CMS map for the proper region, then rely on actual ZIP-level products listed in the exchange.
Where available, compare a realistic BBSP option with conventional Bronze, Silver and Gold candidates on total value.
Record net and gross monthly premiums, deductibles, drug costs, copays, out-of-pocket maximums and covered services.
Confirm named doctors, services, drugs and pharmacies with the exact plan-year network and provider office.
Complete the official application by deadline, keep plan documents and verify effective date and first payment instructions.

How many 2027 Nevada insurance companies and plans were approved?
On October 1, 2026, the Nevada Division of Insurance said 12 companies would offer a combined 165 on- and off-exchange individual-market plans statewide.
How many insurers are available on Nevada Health Link?
The regulator reported nine on-exchange carriers statewide for 2027. That does not guarantee nine different carriers in every Nevada ZIP.
What does the 17.0% approved rate change mean?
It is the Nevada regulator’s 2027 on-exchange market-average increase, not a uniform rate hike or anyone’s net monthly cost after tax credits.
Is the off-exchange increase 10.9%?
The Division of Insurance reported a 10.9% market-average change for three exclusively off-exchange carriers with 46 plans. It is a different market set.
When is Nevada’s 2027 Open Enrollment?
The dated state regulator notice and Nevada Health Link main site list November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027. Verify any special product-level cutoff with the exchange.
Does the CMS map show four areas?
Yes. CMS maps the 17 Nevada county equivalents into four rating areas: Clark/Nye; Washoe; Carson City/Douglas/Lyon/Storey; ten other counties.
Why is Carson City not listed as Carson City County?
Carson City is an independent county equivalent in Census geography, so it is counted separately from Nevada’s 16 counties.
Why does the map highlight a random county initially?
The existing shared map interaction selects a legitimate Nevada county equivalent at random to encourage exploration. You can choose another county or rating area.
Do Clark County and Nye County have identical available plans?
Not necessarily. Both fall in CMS Area 1 for geographic premium rating, but insurers’ product service areas and provider networks must be checked by ZIP.
What are Battle Born State Plans?
They are Nevada-specific state-contracted Qualified Health Plans with premium-reduction targets, available through Nevada Health Link, with the usual QHP benefit and protection rules.
Are Battle Born plans always the cheapest for me?
No. Compare actual net monthly premiums, physician networks, prescriptions and expected out-of-pocket spending for your household.
Can I claim exchange tax credits on a direct off-exchange plan?
Do not assume so. Nevada’s official Marketplace explains that federal financial assistance is available through Nevada Health Link for eligible exchange coverage.
Can I use Nevada Medicaid or Nevada Check Up?
Eligible low-income adults or children may use state public coverage pathways. The official Marketplace can screen and transfer relevant applications to the state.
Does a recognized Nevada insurer guarantee a particular doctor?
No. Verify the exact 2027 network and individual provider participation; a provider accepting one product may not accept another from the same company.
Can I enroll after January 15?
A qualifying life event may permit a Special Enrollment Period. Review current Nevada Health Link rules, supporting documents and deadlines before relying on an exception.
Nevada 2027 primary sources and reproducible map method
All numerical 2027 market claims above are tied to the Nevada Division of Insurance’s dated approved-rate notice, not estimates from older plan years. County-area memberships come from CMS and 17 real boundary shapes from U.S. Census TIGERweb.
